Leeds Marathon
I currently have the following names down for the Marathon which is Saturday 20th June to Sunday 21st June:
Harriet, Andy, Rob W, Laura, Sam, Mark, Dan G, Ian, Pete, Rob M, Marcus, Ste. And a maybe from Ben.
As there are 12, possibly 13 bowlers interested and we only have room for 10, I need to know who are the definites.
THE FIRST TEN OF YOU WHO CONTACT ME WILL MAKE THE TEAMS. Email me j.hill@lboro.ac.uk.
I hear there is another team looking for a couple of extra bowlers, so if you don't make the Lboro teams then I'll put you in touch with Thumper who's team it is.

RE: Leeds Marathon
Thanks Joanne for trying to suit everyone's thoughts.
The way I see it there are 3 different opinions here:
1) Put out the best team - Mark, Pete, Myself, Dan and Andy
This would give Loughborough the best chance of winning something, however from experience this team would still not be good enough. Consider that a Lboro team including Ben, Mark, Horney and Pete (plus Riggall for those who remember) only finished second last year.
2) The popular (it seems) solution - Laura, Mark, Ste, Myself and Pete
This seems to please everyone, but would purely be a fun competition
3) Ian's mini competition - Laura, Andy, Ste, Myself and Pete
Andy not with his prefered team! Mark not in the first team!!! What madness you say!?!
The skill levels match very closely:
Mark - Pete
Dan - Ian
Harriet - Laura
Rob W - Ste
Rob M - Andy
Neither of these team are likely to win anything at the competition itself, but they would allow competition between each other. The comp is looking like it will be subsidised anyway so why not put a fiver into a pot. This would give a £50 prize fund for winners of high team game, overall winners, high handicap game and maybe a few other prizes. No trophies but something to play for. It will keep motivation high (trust me you'll need it).

RE: Leeds Marathon
Well I don't mine what team I'm on as long as I'm there and we all have a good time.
It seems we all need to decide if we want to try for the win (option 1) or go for the fun (with option 2 and/or 3).
Ian's 3rd idea seems a good one - although we can still go for our own mini comp regardless of what lanes we're all on. Give us something to aim for at about 9am when you realise you can't win and are tempted just to stop or give up!

RE: Leeds Marathon
Im not particularly fussed tbh. Its the last tournament for some people and I think we should just ensure everyone has a good time

RE: Leeds Marathon
im all for going for the win. afterall i keep hearing how loughborough have picked up all these tips from last year and can now win it. and i think the win will be much more inspiring than an in house competition.
however i do appreciate that leaves the 2nd team with not much to play for. so my only request should we go for the 3rd option is we make it a tenner each. make the pot a little more respectable.
i think andy is on the money really. lets go for the win as a uni, and have a little in house competition at the end, maybe best handicap series or something like that.

Dan,
I can confidently say that we will not be in with a chance of winning, at best we might be able to gain 3rd place.
I really don't think there is any need to make it £10 each should we do an internal club competition as that is a £100 prize fund. The idea would be to have a few prizes to give people something to aim for and a little motivation (which will certainly be required come 5am).
I think the best bet is to go along for a laugh, especially if everyone is happy with the teams put out previously.
On a different note, who is going to be driving? I think we are going to need 3 people as we will have balls and lots of food.
